London Underground Fashion Victims

February 8th, 2007

Fashion Victims on the Tube
It’s the regular Friday look of people on the Tube who’ve taken a style and made it their own.
Allright ducks
Rather than post the many many Ugg variations I’ve seen this week, the following boots stood out for me:
The combination of nursery look ducks, with denim and suede toe caps was just a little too much of a mix for me. Not helped by very loose trousers tucked inside. But if you’re going to buy boots with ducks on them, I suppose you wouldn’t want them hidden.
Padlock Bling
Luckily James Purves was able to snap the following on his camera phone
Is it a charm bracelet with an oversized “charm”? Or just a interesting way of making sure your watch doesn’t get swiped on the Tube?
That’s it for now. The previous set of victims can be found here and the complete picture gallery can be […]

Second Life’s Tube

February 8th, 2007

Virtual Tube systems
I know close to jib all about Second Life, the virtual world which has millions of people trading, buying, selling and generally living another life online. However, thanks to Andy Green, I’ve learnt that there’s a Tube station on Second Life too.
Please tell me that this is just a fascia though and that there isn’t actually a Tube line that you can travel on? Or is it something that could potentially develop if people wanted to “build” one? Who would own it and would you have to pay to travel on it? I’m assuming there’s a currency in Second Life, but are there virtual Oystercards? Personally I can’t think of anything worse than travelling on a virtual underground. The real one is bad enough, so why would you want to put yourself through this in a virtual world?
Speaking of simulated Tube experiences, Londonist […]

Yosemite Marching Band

February 8th, 2007

Here’s an amusing (and inspiring!) documentary (14:38 on YouTube). The film “illustrates the challenges encountered and overcome by a group of dedicated musicians seeking to perform in Yosemite” and includes some rock climbing scenes. Brilliant stuff! Thanks to Michele for sending me this one.

Waiting for the Sunset

February 8th, 2007

This photo was taken at the Racha Resort where Nick and I spent our honeymoon. We were just enjoying the sunset while most visitors had gone back to their villas to get ready for dinner. I thought that was the most beautiful time of the day. It’s not that I don’t enjoy blue sky with sunshine, I just love sunset more. No words can describe the intense fiery colors at sunset. So I’d rather snap it with my camera and remember it forever.

Everything about White Balance!

February 7th, 2007

You may have spotted the lightbulb, cloud, electricity and woodshed symbols on your camera’s screen or menus. You may have also ignored them as being yet another degree of complexity that you don’t need to know about.
Alternatively, you may have seen people on the Internet earnestly discussing colour temperature and swearing by all sorts […]

Photo call: Nudes and Glamour!

February 7th, 2007

Just a quick one, guys… I’ve been wanting to do an in-depth photo critique and tutorial on nude and glamour photography. Some of you know that I’ve done an introduction to nude photography before, but this one would be far more in-depth. But… I need some contributions…
Would you be interested in having your risque […]

ELLE STYLE AWARDS 2007 at Energetica
The most talked about party of the Amsterdam Fashion Week was the ELLE STYLE AWARDS. And that wasn’t because of their cocktails (more about them later).
The Elle Style Awards started in 2004 and are growing bigger and bigger every year. This year, they were held at the museum Energetica in Amsterdam on the second day of the Amsterdam fashion week. Sponsored by H&M, Nokia, Frieda and Nissan, the Elle Style Awards aim is to choose the best up coming styling talent of the year.
After a strict selection, there were only 5 finalists left. H&M provided the basis clothing with 10 items and they could complete their high fashion catwalk creations with national and international vintage design. They were backed up by Elle’s own stylists Esther Coppoolse and Bonnie Orleans Voss.
Finalists were: - Sophia Bentoh- Danny Daniel- Patricia Giesbers- Eveline du Pon- Auke […]

Late Tubes put on hold

February 6th, 2007

Sheriff Ken and Unions can’t agree to stay out late
Looks like plans to have the Tube running for an extra 30 minutes at night on Fridays and Saturdays have been put on ice, as Ken Livingstone says the rail unions pay demands to keep it running are “prohibitive“.

We’re likely to still see plenty of these
Ken had planned to get Tubes running on Friday and Saturday nights until 1am from May 2007. This is after a public consultatation which attracted 54,000 responses, with the majority in favour of the late night service. The changed timetable would have meant a boost London’s “late night economy” (pubs, clubs & eateries). Although British Transport Police were gearing up to cope with the extra “business“.
Ken offered what he claims to be an “incredibly generous” salary deal that guaranteed staff an extra three days annual leave. But both the RMT and Aslef have […]

ADIDAP - All Day I Dream About Photography

February 6th, 2007

One of my passion is photography, and when I came across a good photography site, I like to share it with my readers. ADIDAP - All Day I Dream About Photography is a good place to get photography ideas, tips and resources. Techniques such as selective color effect in black and white photos and transforming an image to a painting are commonly adopted by professional photographers, and they do wonders to your photographs. Antoine Khater, the author of ADIDAP, provided step-by-step tutorials on how to add those effects to your photos using Photoshop. Give them a try and see how you like them.

Exotic Thai Food

February 6th, 2007

We came across these exotic Thai food at a local night market in Phuket Town. It was right before supper time, and my appetite was instantly boosted when I saw these “tasty” creatures :p. Not only did I have to snap a few photos of them, but I also tried those oily crunchy legs and heads…NOoooo, I’m just kidding.
